Immigration Advocacy Opportunity

Last November, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a “Special Message on Immigration” in which the bishops addressed their concerns about the plight of immigrants in our country.

In response to the bishops’ message, Our Lady of the Lake is joining other parishes in the area in a letter-writing campaign about our nation’s immigration policies. Letters to our elected officials in Washington will be available for you to sign before and after all Masses the weekend of February 7 th and 8 th in the kiosk area.

The Bishops’ Special Message and a sample of the letter you are invited to sign can be viewed below.

This offering of letters is an opportunity to advocate for meaningful immigration reform. You are invited to sign three letters – one to Senator Bernie Moreno, one to Senator Jon Husted, and one to your Representative in the House. The letters will be collected, combined with the letters from other participating parishes, and delivered, in person, to the local office of the elected official. This is a collaborative effort of our parish and the Social Action Office of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Be assured, our elected representatives do track all mail and are keenly aware when they receive volumes of letters on a particular issue. Your advocacy does matter!
