The letter-writing campaign to our elected officials in Washington continues over the weekend of May 17-18. This week’s letter provides an opportunity for interested parishioners to advocate on behalf of our increasingly vulnerable immigrant and refugee friends and neighbors.
Written by Nonviolence Ministry members, the letter expresses alarm about recent actions in which individuals are violently apprehended in our country without regard to their due process rights. It calls upon our senators and representatives to ensure more humane treatment of immigrants and refugees, while also asking them to develop a comprehensive immigration policy.
You are invited to sign the letter shown below, and to add your own comments if you choose. By taking part, you will be responding to the biblical call to “welcome the stranger.”
Please stop by the kiosk area next weekend before or after Mass to sign letters to one or both of our United States senators and/or to your representative. Ministry members will collect, address, and mail the letters.

Letter advocating for seniors
The parish-wide letter-writing campaign to our elected officials in Washington continued over the weekend of May 10-11. This letter provides an opportunity for interested parishioners to advocate on behalf of seniors, especially those who rely heavily on government programs to meet their basic needs.
Written by Nonviolence Ministry members, the letter expresses concerns about proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP programs. These cuts are deeply troubling to seniors along with their families and communities which could also feel their impact.

Letter calling for actions to end hunger
A letter-writing campaign to our elected officials in Washington began the weekend of May 3-4, 2025. This campaign provides an opportunity for interested parishioners to speak out on matters that concern many of us. The first letter allows us to add our voices to others calling for actions to end hunger.
The Diocesan Social Action Office (DSAO) has invited parishes to join with Bread for the World’s “Offering of Letters” advocacy campaign to end childhood hunger and malnutrition. By taking part, you will help support domestic and international nutrition programs that offer vital support to families and children. Your letter matters. Combined with others from our parish and throughout the diocese, your letter is an expression of faith and hope, urging legislators to pursue a world without hunger.
All signed letters from throughout the diocese will be personally delivered by DSAO staff members to the senators’ local offices.
